When does registration open and how do I register?
Registration opens February 1 and is done online only via the Registration page. Get updates by following us on social media. You can pay online, or if you would like to pay with cash or a check, you may do so by contacting us at [email protected] or call or text Susie at 559.349.3927.
How much is registration?
Football and Cheer: $250
Is there a payment plan or discounts on registration?
Yes! If you register on or before April 30th, you can get $25 off of registration. Use code EARLYBIRD25 to apply the discount. You must be paid in full by April 30th or your charge will revert to the regular price. We also offer a sibling discount of $25 off per additional sibling. Where do my registration fees/sponsorships go?
The West Clovis Monsters is a nonprofit, organization that is run by volunteers and funded solely by registered participants, donations and fundraisers. The total cost to run the program costs roughly $45,000 to $50,000.
Registration fees help pay for the following:
- Uniforms: football - personalized jersey that players keep: Cheer - uniform to keep
- Upkeep and purchase of new equipment such as helmets, pads, practice equipment, etc.
- Required league insurance, coaching background checks and training and badges
- Clovis Unified's required fees for the use of practice and game facilities; this includes the cost for janitors and to keep the bathrooms open during practices and games
- Payment for game officials and athletic trainer
- Website and registration management
- End of year banquet
When does registration end?
Registration remains open until all teams are filled or the end of June, whichever comes first. Be sure to register early as team will fill up quickly!
How old does my child need to be to play football or be on cheer?
The program is open to kids from grades K-6th as of August 2024.
What are the age ranges of the football teams and how many players are there on each team?
Peewees: K-2nd grade: max 35 players
Juniors: 3rd & 4th grade: max 35 players
Seniors: 5th & 6th grade, cannot turn 13 before December 1st: Max 35 players
Cheer: K-6th
What are the weight limits for football?
Seniors: max weight 195 lbs
Juniors: max weight 155 lbs
Peewees: max weight 120 lbs
What are the eligibility requirements for football?
- Must be enrolled in grade K-6th
- Must be able to turn in before the first practice, a copy of a sports physical conducted by a physician and dated January 2024 or later
- Proof of school enrollment (via parent connect or enrollment letter, etc)
- Proof of health insurance
- Copy of Birth Certificate
What are the eligibility requirements for cheer?
- Must be enrolled in grade K-6th
- Must be able to turn in before the first practice, a copy of a sports physical conducted by a physician and dated January 2024 or later
- Proof of health insurance
When does the season start?
Practice typically soon after the 4th of July when we get our field assignments and the season runs through the end of November depending on how well each team does.
When, where and how long are football practices?
- Practices will be at an elementary site close to Clovis West. Once we have official field assignments we will announce to registered families.
- Practice is from 6 pm to 8 pm Monday through Friday during the summer and move to Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday when school starts with occasional Friday "walk-through's" per coach's discretion
When, where and how long are cheer practices?
- Cheer teams are determined each season based on the level of interest/registrations of participants and coaches.
- Cheer practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm
When and where are games played?
- Games typically start in August and run through mid to late November depending on how the team ranks in the league.
- Home games are played at and elementary site near Clovis West High School, away games are played at various school sites in Clovis, Fresno, and Madera.
- All games are played on Saturdays (apart from team scrimmages which are played on practice days) and times are as follows: Peewees: 9 am; Juniors: 11 am; Seniors: 1 pm
What are the requirements to become a football or cheer coach?
Coaches are required to complete an application and background check, possess some knowledge and experience coaching an organized football or cheer team and have availability to attend each practice and game. In addition, football coaches must attend and complete specific certifications through USA football. If you are interested in joining our coaching staff, please fill out our Coaching Interest Survey.
Who do the Monsters play?
The Monsters play in the Central Valley Youth Football League (CVYFL).
Are players picked for an All Star team at the end of the season?
The CVYFL is considering an All Star game this season. Stay tuned for more news!
How can I get involved as a volunteer or sponsor?
Volunteers, donations, sponsorship and fundraisers are required to keep the program running. There are several ways to get involved. If you would like to volunteer your time please send us an email and include your contact information so we can get in touch with you about the volunteer opportunities. If you own a business (or know someone who does) and would like to offer monetary or in-kind donation or sponsorship please send us an email with your contact information and we will reach out to discuss how you can get involved. What happens after I register: when do we get jersey numbers, more information about when practice starts, etc?
Once registration closes all participants will receive a welcome email with more details on the next steps including when to expect to get jersey assignments, uniform fittings, first day of practice, etc. There will also be a mandatory parent meeting before the first day of practice in which all parents must attend in order for participants to receive equipment and uniform.
What can I do to get my player/cheerleader ready before the season starts?
There are many opportunities to start working with your player/cheerleader prior to the start of the season. We offer camps ahead of the season as well as voluntary conditioning workouts. We post updates about trainings and camps on our social media pages, as well as this website.
Competitive Play
We will have a 5th quarter before the game if both teams meet the requirements for rostered players. You will be notified in advance if this is going to occur. The 5th quarter is a 20 minute scrimmage of non-starting players in which score is not kept.
